SOUTHCOM Commander Announces Early Retirement

Navy Adm. Alvin Holsey will retire as head of U.S. Southern Command in December, less than a year into his tenure. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the departure Thursday, though no reason was provided for the exit.
Holsey assumed command in November 2024 after a distinguished naval career that included leading a helicopter squadron, commanding Carrier Strike Group One, and holding senior staff positions.
The New York Times and Reuters reported that potential disagreements over decisions regarding counter-narcotics strike operations in the region.
