Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has publicly revealed an underground drone base operated by its Navy.

The announcement was made Thursday during a visit by IRGC Commander-in-Chief Major General Hossein Salami, as reported by Iran’s state-run broadcaster Islam Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). The exact location of the base was not disclosed.

As shown in the video released by IRIB, the base houses hundreds of advanced Iranian-made drones. IRIB said that the drones at the base are constructed from carbon and outfitted with advanced electronic warfare systems, making it difficult for warship radars to detect.

The video features one of the drones, the Mohajer-6, tracking the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as it sailed through the Persian Gulf. The base has also been used recently to monitor the movements of naval vessels from non-regional countries in Gulf waters, as seen in the footage.

IRIB said the base is just one of the many operated by the IRGC Navy. In March, the IRGC unveiled an underground missile city housing precision-guided missiles, including the Khaybar Shekan, Haj Qasem, Ghadr-H, Emad, Sejjil, and Paveh models.

On the sidelines of the tour, Salami said that the newly unveiled drone base represents only a fraction of the IRGC Navy’s drone capabilities. He said the unveiling was meant to demonstrate the IRGC’s strength and to prevent “enemies” from making any “miscalculations.”
